Essential Light

Holly Johnson Gallery in Dallas is pleased to announce the opening of Joan Winter: Essential Light, an exhibition consisting of a new monoprints on Japanese mulberry paper, new soft-ground etchings, new oil paintings, and recent sculpture. An opening reception for the artist will be held Saturday, January 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. and the exhibit will continue through March 16th.

This body of work explores the intangible elements of essential light and the passage of time. The work is a continuation of the artist’s interest in all aspects of color, the cycles of nature, and the texture of natural surroundings.

Joan Winter worked in architecture for ten years before receiving her MFA from SMU. She studied art and architecture at Texas Tech University. Her solo exhibitions from the mid 1990’s - 2018 include galleries in New York, Chicago, Santa Fe, Houston, Marfa, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and in group exhibitions in Awaji, Japan and Arequipa, Peru.

Joan Winter’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Tyler Museum of Art as well as numerous private and corporate collections in the US and UK. Her art is also included in book publications: Texas Abstract: Modern/Contemporary and Flatbed Press at 25 Years and recent catalogues, Joan Winter, Edge of Light and Joan Winter, Japan Prints.
